Moroccan Handmade Gift Ideas for Christmas: A Guide to Giving Handmade

The best Moroccan gifts have three things in common: they get used, their origin is clear, and their finish shows the hand that made them. A hooded selham, a tailored jacket, a leather tote, a braided belt or a pair of shoes: here are our handmade gift ideas for everyone on your list, and how to choose well.
Some presents get unwrapped, admired and put away. Others turn up on someone’s shoulder on a frosty morning, and again the winter after. This guide is about the second kind: pieces made by hand in Morocco, designed for everyday life rather than the souvenir shelf.
Why give a Moroccan handmade gift?

Because a handmade gift holds something no wrapping paper can: time and skill. A seam stitched by hand, a leather braid tightened strand by strand, embroidery that follows the edge of a hood. You give the object, and everything it took to make it.
Moroccan craft has another strength: it comes from long-standing skills rooted in specific cities. Fès, for instance, has long been known for leather, metalwork and textiles, and its medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is still a place where trades are passed on. A piece from there carries a little of that story.
And a Moroccan gift doesn’t need to look “exotic”. Often the finest pieces are the ones that slip easily into a modern wardrobe, with one detail that gives away their origin: the hood of a selham, indigo-blue embroidery on ivory, a shade of green leather you won’t find elsewhere.
How to tell a genuinely handmade piece
Before you buy, a few habits help you avoid mass-produced “Moroccan style”:
- A precise origin. “Handmade in Fès” or “handmade in Morocco” tells you something. “Oriental-inspired” tells you nothing about where it was made.
- Finishes worth a close look. Even but not machine-perfect stitching, neatly finished leather edges, embroidery that is clean on the back as well as the front.
- Slight variations from piece to piece. Handmade work is never perfectly identical: that is a sign, not a flaw.
- An honest description of materials. A serious brand says what it knows, and doesn’t promise what it can’t prove.

Gift ideas by profile: for him, for her, genderless
Every Morosko piece is genderless: you don’t choose a selham or a tote by ticking “men” or “women”, but by thinking about the person, their style and how they live. So instead of sorting our ideas by gender, we sorted them by profile. Whether you’re after a unique Christmas gift for a man, a woman or someone who fits no box at all, start with how they’ll use it.
| For… | Our idea | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| The one who’s always cold | A hooded selham: NASNAS or TROZE | A generous layer that goes over any outfit |
| The tailoring fan | The FITA double-breasted blazer or the RARI chore jacket | Clean cuts, visible construction details |
| The one who carries everything | The FRANE tote or the SWIRA tote | An everyday leather bag, made by hand |
| The detail lover | The ZROU belt, KIMA or CHÉDA shoes | Braided leather as a signature |
| The minimalist | ASSANE or COLIN trousers, or the DRISSI tunic | Strong basics, easy to wear every day |

Not sure of their measurements? Go for an accessory: a tote or a belt needs far less precision than a jacket or a pair of trousers. If you’d rather give clothing, a generous piece such as a selham leaves more room for error than a fitted cut. Either way, read the product page before you order, and keep in mind that a piece can be returned under the conditions on our Returns page.
Pieces from the ATLAS collection to give (handmade in Fès, numbered series)
The ATLAS collection, handmade in Fès (page in French), was designed by Ghali Khomsi, founder of Morosko. Its pieces are made by hand by artisans in the city, in a numbered series, and each one is named after a person, a place or a moment that inspired it. It matters when you give one: you’re not giving “trousers”, you’re giving ASSANE.
The selhams: a gift that wraps around you
The selham is a hooded cape from the Moroccan tradition, which we bring into an everyday wardrobe. NASNAS (page in French) is navy, crossed by a wide central band in Nacre: the bolder of the two. TROZE is ivory, embroidered in indigo blue on the hood, the back and the hem: the softer one. To learn more, see our page on the genderless selham (page in French).
Jackets and tunic: the tailoring line
FITA (page in French) is a double-breasted blazer in cream linen, with patch pockets and saddle stitching. RARI is a chore jacket in navy cotton canvas, with ochre topstitching and a slit at the back that reveals a white linen panel. DRISSI is a navy tunic in cotton and linen, with a V-neck, a machine-embroidered ecru trim down the front and Nacre sleeve panels. All three suit someone who loves well-built clothes.
Trousers: the basic they’ll keep
ASSANE (page in French) is a pair of straight-leg trousers in warm white, mostly linen with a little cotton. The Italian-style waistband has no belt loops and adjusts at the sides. A safe choice for someone who likes simple pieces that go with everything.
Shoes: braided leather as a signature
KIMA (page in French) is a chunky black leather shoe with a Cèdre-green leather braid across the vamp and a lugged rubber sole. CHÉDA goes all black: black leather, a black leather braid and a buckle. For sizing, check each product page.
Leather goods: Cèdre green
FRANE (page in French) is a tote in Cèdre-green leather with a cold-pressed monogram, Nacre topstitching and a Nacre strap. ZROU is a belt in finely braided Cèdre-green leather, each strand topstitched in cream, with a square brushed-nickel buckle. Given together, or with KIMA, they make a complete set.
Leather goods and clothing handmade in Morocco: SWIRA and COLIN
Beyond the ATLAS collection, two Morosko pieces handmade in Morocco also make lovely gifts. SWIRA (page in French) is a tote in cognac leather: a warm, easy shade for a bag that goes everywhere. COLIN (page in French) is a pair of straight white trousers, mostly cotton with a little linen, smooth and matte, closed with an inner buckle fastening and finished with a sliding metal buckle at the side.

Delivery to France: duties and taxes included
We currently deliver to mainland France, with customs duties and import taxes included: the amount shown at checkout is the amount you pay, with nothing to pay on delivery. Up-to-date terms are on our Shipping page.
Buying from the UK, the US or elsewhere? For now we only deliver within mainland France, so this guide is best used for a gift sent to someone there, or simply as inspiration.
A holiday tip: check the shipping date shown on each product page before you order. If it falls after Christmas Eve, you can still give the announcement on the day, a handwritten card under the tree for instance, and let the piece arrive afterwards. Something made by hand is worth a little wait.

FAQ: your questions about Moroccan handmade gifts
What Moroccan gift should I give for Christmas?
Something that gets worn or used every day: a hooded selham, a jacket, a leather tote, a braided belt or a pair of shoes. Choose by the person’s habits rather than their gender.
How can I be sure a gift is handmade?
Look for a precise origin (city, workshop), check the finishes closely and be wary of vague labels such as “Moroccan style”. Slight variations between pieces are a good sign.
Will I pay customs duties on delivery?
Not on morosko.ma: pieces are delivered to France with duties and taxes included. When buying elsewhere from outside the European Union, charges may be added on delivery, so always check whether the price includes them.
Will my order arrive before Christmas?
Each piece ships on the date shown on its product page: check it before you order. If the piece arrives after the holidays, you can give the announcement on the day.
Are Morosko pieces for men or for women?
All our pieces are genderless: anyone can wear them. What changes is how you wear them, not the piece.
